I remember my parents used to have this saying while I was growing up. They’d say, “See Paris and die.” I took it literally and imagined people actually went to Paris to die. In retrospect, I understand what they mean.
You just have to visit some places in the world to fully grasp its unique beauty. While I understand that beauty is subjective, certain destinations have captivated travelers with their breathtaking landscapes, cultural richness, and unique charm.
Here’s a list of places you should visit as a proof that you’ve truly lived and seen some of the most beautiful places in the world.
Venice, Italy
Venice is a city of timeless beauty and romance. Built on a network of canals, its historic architecture, gondola-filled waterways, and vibrant piazzas create a unique charm.
St. Mark’s Basilica, the Grand Canal, and the Rialto Bridge are just a few of the iconic landmarks but the things I love most about Venice are the colorful houses atop the canals, the romantic history, the festivals and most of all the je ne sais quoi.
Banff National Park, Canada
Nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Banff National Park is a natural wonderland. Its turquoise lakes, snow-capped peaks, and lush forests offer a picturesque landscape that is ideal for hiking, skiing, and wildlife viewing.
Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, with their vibrant blue waters, are particularly iconic, drawing visitors from around the globe.
If you’re new in Canada and you haven’t taken a trip to Banff National Park, you really should make it a priority.
Bora Bora, French Polynesia
Bora Bora is another clear water paradise just like the Maldives. It is often considered the epitome of tropical paradise. Its turquoise waters, overwater bungalows, and lush greenery provide tourists with a serene and luxurious escape feel.
The island is surrounded by a barrier reef, making it perfect for snorkeling and diving. Mount Otemanu, rising from the center of the island, provides a dramatic backdrop to this idyllic destination.
Machu Picchu, Peru
Machu Picchu, the ancient Incan city set high in the Andes Mountains, holds a fine blend of architectural and historical significance. Mostly referred to as “The lost city of the Incas.” It is the tangible legacy of the Inca civilization.
The site’s stone structures and terraces blend in with the surrounding landscape of steep mountains.
The journey to this UNESCO World Heritage site, often through the Inca Trail, adds to the adventure and mystique of the experience.
Great Barrier Reef, Australia
If you love watching underwater creatures in their natural habitat, then you’ll enjoy a trip to the great barrier reef.
The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system. It is a vibrant underwater paradise. Spanning over 2,300 kilometers, it hosts a diverse array of marine life and stunning coral formations.
Snorkeling and diving in the Great Barrier Reef offer an unparalleled opportunity to explore its colourful ecosystems and witness the unimaginable beauty of the underwater world.
Santorini, Greece
Santorini is an island that epitomizes Greek beauty with its white-washed buildings, blue-domed churches, and stunning sunsets over the Aegean Sea.
The cliffs of Oia are a sight to behold and they are nothing short of magical. It definitely looks like it was carved out of a picture.
The island’s volcanic beaches and crystal-clear waters add to its charm, making it a perfect destination for romance and relaxation.
The Maldives
The people’s favourite honeymoon and holiday destination! The Maldives is an extensive group of islands in the Indian Ocean. It is the smallest country in Asia, popularly known for its pristine white-sand beaches, clear blue waters, and luxurious overwater villas.
Each of its islands offers a private paradise where visitors can relax, snorkel, and experience unparalleled tranquility. The underwater life here is just as spectacular, with coral reefs teeming with marine species.
If you’re planning to visit the Maldives, you should know that their weekend is Friday and Saturday and services on the local islands may be reduced on those days.
The world is filled with places of extraordinary beauty, and each of them offer unique experiences that capture the imagination and leave a lasting impression. So whether you’re drawn to the serene beaches or history or the vibrant underwater life, these destinations showcase the diverse beauty our planet has to offer.
In case you haven’t visited any of the places on my list of seven, you should make a bucket list and tag it “places to see before I die,” pack your bags, embark on an adventure, and discover the breathtaking wonders that await you.
